This website offers an evolving account of Northumberland small piping in North Shields over more than two centuries.
It offers credible information, founded on recent research, about the history of small-piping and associated music in North Shields and Tynemouth and about the J W Fenwick Manuscript. The content will be expanded, and amended if necessary, as research allows. A private research forum is under development, but at present the website has no facility for wider discussion of the content.
The author of the website plays Northumberland small-pipes and researches their history (both at strictly amateur level) and hopes that the information presented here may be of interest to other pipers and historians. It is also hoped that the site might encourage further research, and encourage researchers to share the outcomes of their work.
